Dana Larkin Sauers, founding member of Hanover Poets and founding co-editor of the literary journal, Digges’ Choice, has been featured in the Carroll County Arts Council’s First Thursdays, The Common Grounds Music and Arts Festival, Minas’ Gallery, Mindy’s Coffee Shop, Reader’s Café, Pomfret’s Book Store, Esquire’s Deli, East Shore Library, and Border’s Books in both York and Lancaster. She has read widely South Central Pennsylvania as well as in Maryland, New Jersey and Limerick, Ireland.
Dana was First Prize Winner of the nationally juried poetry contest, Riverwalk, and is second time First Place Winner in The Reader’s Café Annual Poetry Contest. Her poem, “Down Word” received Honorable Mention recognition in the Hundington Literary Council Competition. Her poems have been featured in both OneTree Productions and Fledgling Rag.
Chairperson of the English Department at Delone Catholic High, although beginning her professional career at South Western High School, she has taught English, public speaking and a number of electives for thirty years. Dana moderates the student literary magazine, Insquire and holds an Open Mic Nite twice a year as a celebration of literacy and as a fundraiser for local and global literacy. Dana was named Young Educator of the Year for the Hanover area in 1991. She is an adjunct professor of Alvernia College and Pennsylvania State University.
She was the second Poet Laureate of Hanover, Pennsylvania. Her tenure began in October 2005 and continued through October 2007. Her column, My Letter to the World, was posted in the Hanover Evening Sun’s Sunday SunStyle. She solicited both free verse and traditional poetry for publication therein. She is a published author of her 2006 Between the Space of Grace and Gray, a compilation of nine year’s poetic efforts. She is presently compiling a collection of articles for her new book this year.
Dana has spoken at Penn Writer’s Conference, York city’s Children and Youth Services, PCTELA, the state’s language arts educational conference, and the Harrisburg Catholic Diocesan Educational Conference. She holds a B.A. in English and secondary certification in Pennsylvania. She graduated summa cum laude with a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Supervision.
Dana resides in Hanover with her husband, Kent. They have been married for thirty years and have four children.
