First Friday is celebrated each month at The Ragged Edge, 110 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325 from 7-9 PM with a poetry event hosted upstairs by me and affectionately referred to as "Welcome to My Livingroom."
Poets of all ages and experiences are invited to participate in an Open Mic, reading three poems or under five minutes of their own or other poetic works. A ten to fifteen minute break follows in which poets and audience can peruse and/or purchase pieces of the monthly art exhibit downstairs, enjoying wine, cheese and other tasties. Following the break, a featured poet will read for 30-40 minutes. During this time, a hat is passed around in support of the poet, so please be generous!
Enjoy a wide variety of delicious soups, sandwiches and coffees while you are enjoying the company of the wordsmiths. Most foods are organically grown or baked locally.
Since I guarantee that the poet will receive the attention and respect of the audience, no cell phones, computers, peripheral conversation or unemergency exiting occurs while the poet is reading.
When visiting G-burg, please come with a pocketful of quarters to feed the meters until 8PM.
Be sure to visit The Reader's Cafe, 125 Broadway, Hanover, PA 17331 on third Mondays from 7-9PM for poetry critiques (Bring 10 copies) and fourth Mondays from 7-9PM for featured and open mic readings hosted by Hanover Poet Laureate, Michael Hoover.
